Beginning Single Parenting
We recommend starting with an initial consultation and physical exam. This will allow us to assess your fertility and create a treatment plan with you.
Each plan is unique but consists of very common procedures. For women, your plan may start with Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or go straight to In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). You might be lucky early on or require several attempts before you get pregnant. The important thing to remember is that everyone is different and that on average it takes multiple tries to get achieve success.
Choosing a Donor
Once we have created a treatment plan — but before you begin it — you will need to choose a sperm donor, egg donor, and/or Gestational Carrier. Your first step will be deciding whether to enlist a friend or to select an anonymous donor from a donor egg or sperm bank.
You may find you prefer to choose a friend as your donor. If you do so, you should arrange to have him or her undergo a rigorous medical screening so that you are completely informed about any genetic problems he or she may potentially pass on. When considering using a known donor, it’s wise to get legal counseling regarding the laws in Arizona (or your state of residency) so you can ensure your child’s best interests are protected.
For anonymous donors, AZARH works with accredited donor egg and sperm banks, most notably The World Egg Bank and California Cryobank. Most donor egg and sperm banks will allow you to browse or search donors by specific characteristics such as height, ethnicity, education, eye color — even blood type. You may then acquire an in-depth profile for a fee. It is important to not purchase donor egg or sperm before finding out which preparation you will need (e.g. fresh or frozen), for the procedures in your treatment plan as they vary from patient to patient.
Using a Gestational Carrier
For prospective parents who need the assistance of a Gestational Carrier, our team of Arizona fertility specialists are here to guide you through the selection of an agency and to help map out a treatment plan that will include In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
