In our experience, we have found that almost 90% of major insurance companies will cover diagnostic testing until the diagnosis of infertility is confirmed. Approximately 50% of insurance companies will then also cover some level of infertility treatment. A few, under certain circumstances, will even cover the need for a donor.
The diagnostic testing procedures done most often include:
- Initial Ultrasound
- Initial Blood Work
- Semen Analysis
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
ASSESSING YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE
A good way to start getting a sense of your current policy’s covered benefits is to look through the information you were given when you first received the policy. If it’s been awhile, you may want to request an updated covered benefits package be sent to you to ensure accuracy.
CONFIRMING YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE
Whether you think you have benefit coverage or not, it’s a good idea to have our financial counselor take a look. In addition, we can recommend other financial options such as packages that can help fill in what your insurance doesn’t cover.
SOME EMPLOYERS OFFER MULTIPLE INSURANCE PLANS
If you do have benefit coverage and your employer happens to offer multiple carriers of health insurance, you might consider looking at all plans to better understand which infertility treatments are covered under each. Contacting the insurance companies directly to have your questions answered will help you clarify which plan offers the best coverage for your treatment plan.
REMEMBER, YOU CAN ALWAYS GO AT YOUR OWN PACE
Infertility treatment can take an emotional toll. The financial component can as well. Together they can sometimes make the fertility treatment journey a little overwhelming. We will do everything we can to give you the very best care to fit your medical, financial, and emotional needs at the pace that makes you the most comfortable.
