What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis, a chronic disease, is a condition where endometrial tissue is present in abnormal locations such as inside the fallopian tubes, on the ovaries, and in the peritoneal cavity, which often causes painful menstruation and infertility.

Endometriosis is a hormonal, ovulation, and implantation abnormality.

Is infertility high for women with Endometriosis?

In general women with Endometriosis have a low fertility rate on their own. The prognosis for women with infertility and Endometriosis is 25-50%.

What are the chances of getting pregnant with Endometriosis?

Endometriosis affects the chances of fertility and pregnancy in many different ways.

Women with severe Endometriosis should consider In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) as their best fertility treatment. Women with severe Endometriosis with ovarian cysts might be a good candidate for surgical procedure intervention also. Severe Endometriosis is related to the pelvic scarring, which will prevent the normal function of the ovaries from implantation and the overall lack of ability for eggs to latch onto the ovaries are affected.

Women with minimal Endometriosis should consider Controlled Ovarian Hyperstimulation and Intrauterine Insemination (artificial insemination).
